Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless Water Heater Installation in Charleston, SC

Tired of running out of hot water halfway through the second shower? A tankless (on-demand) water heater heats water only when you open a tap, so you don’t run out. Pineapple Plumbing installs tankless water heaters and converts homes from tank to tankless across Charleston and the Lowcountry. You get a written estimate before any work starts. Already have a tankless unit that’s acting up? See tankless water heater repair.

Is a Tankless Water Heater Right for You?

  • Your family runs out of hot water.
  • Your tank is near the end of its 8–12 year life, and you’d like a unit that lasts 15–20 years.
  • You need space back. A wall-mounted tankless unit frees up a closet or a corner of the garage.
  • You want lower energy costs. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that tankless units can cut water-heating energy use by 24–34% for many homes.
  • You live in the Lowcountry. Charleston’s groundwater is warm, typically 65–75°F, so tankless units don’t have to work as hard here as they do in colder climates.

Tankless Options

Gas Tankless

Gas units deliver high flow rates for homes with several bathrooms. They may need a larger gas line and new venting.

Electric Tankless

Electric units are compact and need no venting, but they usually require a dedicated high-amperage circuit and enough panel capacity.

Whole-Home vs. Point-of-Use

A whole-home unit serves the entire house. A small point-of-use unit can serve one distant bathroom or an addition.

Tank-to-Tankless Conversion: What's Involved

Switching to tankless takes more planning than a tank swap. We check:

  1. Gas line size or electrical capacity: many homes need an upgrade.
  2. Venting: gas units need dedicated venting that is different from tank venting.
  3. Flow-rate sizing: we size the unit for the number of fixtures running at once.
  4. Mounting location and the water and condensate connections.

You’ll get the full scope and price in a written estimate before you commit.

Our Tankless Installation Process

  1. Assessment and sizing for your home and hot water use.
  2. Written estimate before any work begins.
  3. Permit: we pull the permit for your installation.
  4. Code-compliant installation: we remove the old tank if you’re converting, install the new unit and make any required gas, venting or electrical upgrades.
  5. Testing and walkthrough: we test the flow and temperature and explain how to keep the unit free of scale with periodic flushing.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Are tankless water heaters worth it in Charleston?
For many households, yes. Tankless units last 15–20 years compared with 8–12 for a tank, save space, and use less energy. Charleston's warm groundwater (about 65–75°F) also helps them perform well. They cost more up front.
With regular maintenance, a tankless water heater typically lasts 15–20 years.
Yes. A conversion may need a larger gas line, new venting, or a dedicated electrical circuit. Pineapple Plumbing assesses your home and lists the full scope in a written estimate.
Gas or electric tankless: which is better?
Gas tankless units deliver higher flow for larger homes but need venting and enough gas supply. Electric units are simpler to place but need significant electrical capacity. The best choice depends on what your home already has.
Yes. Tankless units should be flushed periodically to remove scale from the heat exchanger. Scale can cause temperature swings and shorten the unit's life.
No. A correctly sized tankless unit heats water continuously as it flows. If too many fixtures run at once for the unit's flow rating, the water temperature can drop, which is why proper sizing matters.

These guys are amazing! I called due to a clogged drain and they came out the next day. They even stayed until late evening to ensure the problem was resolved that day. All the technicians were friendly and communicated upon arrival. One of the owners even called to follow up from the visit. I have already recommended them to several people and will continue to highly recommend them to anyone in need of plumbing services.

So I posted a 5⭐️ review a month or so ago. I had all of my pipes re-done and some fixtures replaced by these wonderful people. Here we are a month later and somehow I have managed to loosen my kitchen sink. I txt them at noon, embarrassed I might add, to need help with something so frivolous. By 2 pm Austin showed up to my house to tighten it, all the while assuring me it was his pleasure and wouldn’t accept a dime from me, as it was a part of my warranty. I will forever suggest these guys to everyone I know and am so grateful they are who I chose when there are so many options out there🥰
