Gas Line Repair & Replacement in Charleston, SC
Charleston homes run on gas more than most people realize. The water heater, the range, the fireplace that gets used a few weeks a year, and more and more often, the grill or outdoor kitchen out back. When one of those lines leaks, loses pressure, or needs to be extended, you want a local plumber who treats gas work with the care it deserves.
Pineapple Plumbing handles gas line repair, gas line replacement, and new gas line installation for homeowners in Charleston, Summerville, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, West Ashley, and across the Lowcountry. We’re locally owned and veteran-owned, and the person who quotes your job is one of the owners doing the work.
You get a flat-rate price before we start, a plain explanation of what we found, and no pressure to buy anything you don’t need.
Smell gas? Leave first, then call.
If you smell rotten eggs or sulfur, hear hissing near a gas line, or think you have a leak, don’t try to find it yourself. Get everyone out of the house. Don’t flip light switches, use appliances, or start a car in the garage on your way out. Once you’re safely away from the home, call your gas utility’s emergency line (or your propane supplier) or 911. After they have made the home safe, call us at (843) 739-7438 and we’ll find and repair the leak.
Gas Leak Detection and Repair
Most of the leaks we find are not dramatic. It’s a loose fitting behind a range, a corroded flex connector on an older water heater, or a threaded joint that has worked loose as the house settled. Small leaks still matter, because gas that escapes indoors can build up over time.
For gas leak repair, we start by pinpointing the source with an electronic gas detector and a leak solution on every suspect joint and fitting. Once it’s fixed, we pressure test the line before relighting anything. If a section of pipe is corroded or the fittings are original to an older home, we’ll show you what we see and explain whether a repair or a replacement makes more sense. The decision is yours.
Signs worth a call:
- A faint gas smell near an appliance or the meter
- A hissing or whistling sound near a gas line
- Dead or brown patches of grass along the path of a buried line
- A gas bill that jumps with no change in how you use it
New Gas Line Installation for Grills, Outdoor Kitchens, and Appliances
Outdoor living is a big part of life here, and a lot of the gas work we do is adding something new. That might be a natural gas line to a built-in grill so you never swap another propane tank, a stub-out for an outdoor kitchen or fire table, a line for a new gas range when you’re switching from electric, or gas to a fireplace insert or a new tankless water heater.
We size the gas piping for the appliances you have now and the ones you may add later, so a new grill line doesn’t leave your water heater or furnace short on pressure. Depending on the run, we use black iron pipe or flexible CSST, and CSST is bonded to your home’s electrical grounding as code requires. Every new line gets its own shut-off valve at the appliance and a pressure test before it goes into service, along with the permit and inspection your city or county requires. Whether you’re in a newer home in Summerville or Goose Creek or an older one in West Ashley, the process is the same.
Gas Line Replacement and Buried Lines from the Meter
If your gas meter sits away from the house, the buried line running from the meter to your home is usually the homeowner’s responsibility, not the utility’s. Older buried steel lines can corrode in our damp coastal soil, and once one starts leaking, patching it is rarely a long-term answer.
For a buried gas line replacement, we run new polyethylene gas piping rated for underground use, with a tracer wire so the line can be located later. Before we dig, we contact SC811 to have public utilities marked, and we walk you through the route so we disturb as little of your yard and landscaping as possible.
Shut-Off Valve Replacement and Pressure Testing
Every gas appliance should have its own shut-off valve within reach. Older homes often have valves that are seized, missing, or an outdated style that doesn’t close fully. We replace them with modern quarter-turn gas valves, so you can shut off one appliance without cutting gas to the whole house.
Pressure testing is how we prove a gas system is tight. We isolate the line, pressurize it, and watch the gauge for any drop over a set time. We pressure test after every repair and installation. It’s also a smart step before buying an older home in Charleston or Mount Pleasant, after a renovation, or if appliances have been added over the years and you’re not sure how the work was done.

These guys are amazing! I called due to a clogged drain and they came out the next day. They even stayed until late evening to ensure the problem was resolved that day. All the technicians were friendly and communicated upon arrival. One of the owners even called to follow up from the visit. I have already recommended them to several people and will continue to highly recommend them to anyone in need of plumbing services.Posted on Google![]()

So I posted a 5⭐️ review a month or so ago. I had all of my pipes re-done and some fixtures replaced by these wonderful people. Here we are a month later and somehow I have managed to loosen my kitchen sink. I txt them at noon, embarrassed I might add, to need help with something so frivolous. By 2 pm Austin showed up to my house to tighten it, all the while assuring me it was his pleasure and wouldn’t accept a dime from me, as it was a part of my warranty. I will forever suggest these guys to everyone I know and am so grateful they are who I chose when there are so many options out there🥰
